Argyle identified a coordinated network of bots and trolls on a social media platform used by a hostile state-backed actor to conduct foreign malign influence campaigns across the Middle East. The team then alerted the platform, which terminated the network, and worked with officials in the target countries to efficiently shield their citizens from influence campaigns and instability.
Argyle discovered an inauthentic, astroturfed online campaign targeting a multinational company, seemingly by hundreds of its own employees for political reasons, that would lose the company a billion-dollar contract. After careful analysis, Argyle determined that it was not a genuine grassroots effort but rather a pre-planned campaign executed by powerful entities. Argyle sent its findings to the company. Equipped with the knowledge that it was not facing a widespread internal revolt, the company proceeded with the billion-dollar deal uninhibited.
Argyle detected suspicious online activity in a country while it was engaged in an armed conflict, including harassing social media influencers, hacking the accounts of government officials, and shutting down governmental websites. Our team concluded that the activity was conducted by a “troll farm” and located their main channels of communication online. After notifying the platforms of the troll farm’s presence, its communication channels were closed.
Argyle recognized a coordinated, inauthentic harassment campaign of thousands of negative comments on a high-profile individual’s social media accounts for political purposes. Through our meticulous process, we discerned that the bulk of accounts participating in the harassment were bots and trolls. Argyle compiled the findings into an alert that was sent to the individual’s team and relevant tech platforms. The accounts were suspended, and the individual’s public image was protected.
